Celebrating 60 years of revolution with “Che”

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, the Socialist Party of Ventura County will be hosting a free screening of Steven Soderbergh’s 2008 masterpiece “Che: Part One.” The film follows the events of the 26th of July Movement’s guerrilla warfare campaign to overthrow U.S.-backed military dictator Fulgencio Batista through the eyes of Argentinian doctor-turned-revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

Before the film, there will be a short presentation explaining the historical conditions of Cuba that lead to the Revolution. After the film, we’ll discuss the Revolution’s hardships, shortcomings, and achievements. We’ll also discuss the many revolutions Cuba inspired, with a special focus on Venezuela in light of recent events. Refreshments will be provided, and don’t forget to bring a friend!
